Human trafficking can take many forms such as labour exploitation, sexual exploitation, forced marriage and forced begging, just to name a few. This is a violation of human rights rooted in social inequalities perpetuated by exploitive neo-liberal structures.
We all agree that human trafficking should be stopped and its root causes addressed. However, in our quest to do so, our efforts often have harmful consequences for trafficked persons and people who belong to targeted groups such as sex workers, migrant workers, racialized youth, and so on.
